A Walking Tour

Ryan and I went on a walking and taxi tour of Guangzhou today. We took a taxi to another big shopping area called Tianhe District. Our taxi dropped us off at the TeeMall: a huge indoor shopping mall. It was packed with people. One look at the crowds sent us back outside where we walked the city blocks surrounding the Tianhe Sports Complex - a big stadium, track, soccer field, baseball field, and basketball courts.

We didn't ask anyone about them, but we have two theories about these red chaises that were sitting on the track there. They are either intended for use during a Moon Cake festival parade of some sort later this week, or maybe they are used to carry the soccer players out onto the field at the start of a match. There were almost 100 of them around the track.
Then we took a taxi to Ersha Island, located in the middle of the Pearl River. There is a huge park there, as well as the lovely Xinghai Concert Hall (shown above). The Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra performs here. We sat at an outdoor cafe and enjoyed a beverage in the middle of the warm afternoon.
We walked along the promenade on the south side of Ersha Island before hiring a taxi back to the hotel.
There is a lot of construction and renovation happening in Guanghou everywhere we look. However, typical scaffolding used in this region is made entirely of bamboo.

We did give in to the jet lag and took some decent naps this afternoon before dinner. Hopefully we'll be able to get back to sleep tonight! Leaving soon for dinner at an Italian resturant. Enjoy your Tuesday - mine was lovely!
